This the third ship to carry the name HMS Canterbury was a
Light Cruiser.
Built by John Brown on the Clyde, laid down 14-Oct-1914, launched 21-Dec-1915 and completed 09-May-1916. On completion joined the Grand Fleet 1916, then the 5th Light Cruiser Squadron at Harwich, 1916-18. To the Aegean and Black Sea 1918-19. The Atlantic Fleet 1919. Served as Gunnery Training Ship at Portsmouth 1919-22. Into reserve at Portsmouth 1922-24. The Atlantic Fleet 1924-25. Refitted at the Nore and then went into reserve at the Nore 1925-26. To the Atlantic Fleet 1926-30. Into reserve again 1930-33. Detached for trooping duties to China 1930-31. Sold 1934. Won the Battle Honour: Jutland 1916.
