HMS Astute (2010) SSN  (2nd)

   
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Astute is the name ship of the Navy's latest class of attack  submarines.

Building at BAE Systems of Barrow, laid down 31-Jan-2001, 100 years after the keel was laid for the Navy's first submarine, the Holland 1.

Launched 08-Jun-2007. After initial wet dock trials were conducted. These were followed in Oct-2007 by further work in the Devonshire Dock Hall and loading of her Nuclear Fuel. She emerged from this on 15-Oct-2008.

Commissioned 27-Aug-2010 which will be followed by about 12 months of sea trials, before entering the fleet.

Grounded off the Isle of Skye and sustained minor damage, returned to service 11-Dec-2010.

Continues with first of class service trials.

In service Dec-2012.
