HMS Amphitrite (1901) CC  (6th)

    
This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Amphitrite was a 1st Class, Protected Cruiser.

Built by Vickers Maxim of Barrow, laid down 08-Dec-1896, launched 05-Jan-1898, and completed 17-Sep-1901.

On completion was used for special service 1901-02. Then to the China Station 1902-05. Returned to the UK and went into reserve 1905-09. Served as tender to HMS Vivid, as Stokers Training Ship, Devonport 1905-07. Joined the 9th Cruiser Squadron, Mid-Atlantic 1914-15. Harbour service at Portsmouth 1915-16.

Converted to a minelayer at Devonport 1916-17. Served in this capacity with the Nore Command 1917-19.

Paid off Jun-1919 and went into reserve at Portsmouth 1919-20.

Converted to a minelayer 1917, with 4 x 6in, and 1 x 12pdr guns, and 354 mines.

Sold 12-Apr-1920.
