River Class (2003) PV

The four ships of the River Class (2003) are offshore patrol vessels able to be used for a number of additional roles including fire-fighting, disaster relief and anti-pollution duties. They have a large open deck aft which is strong enough to transport tracked and wheeled vehicles or an LCVP.

They were constructed in two batches. The first three commissioned in 2003 to replace the seven ships of the Island Class (1976) patrol vessels. The fourth was ordered 2005 to a slightly larger size specifically to replace two Castle vessels and is based in the Falkland Islands.
