The Catherine Class minesweepers were designed and built in the Unites States intended to be supplied to the Royal Navy under lend-lease. Several of these were in fact retained by the US Navy for their own use and in addition a large number of ships were built solely for US Navy use and known as the Auk Class. With a grand total of 95 ships being built. At the end of WW2 surviving ships were returned to the US Navy.
