Type 41 Leopard Class (1957) FF
Anti-aircraft Frigate

The Leopards used the same hull as the Type 61s, only the equipment and armament differed. Their diesel engines meant that they could not be used as fast carrier escorts, although their long range was well suited to peacetime patrol.

All the class in RN service were refitted in the 1960s.

The Type 960 was replaced by the Type 965 with the mainmast being replaced by a stronger structure to support the AKE1 antenna.
The Type 293Q was replaced by a Type 993, and the STAAG mounting was replaced by a single 40mm gun. Extra ESM equipment were also added.
The crew was increased to 235.
