Grenville Class (1936) DD |
|
The
Grenville Class was a two ship class of destroyer leaders. They were
similar to the Exmouth Class
(1934) ships.
HMS Grenville was the destroyer leader for the 1933 programme of destroyers the G Class (1936) destroyer flotilla. HMS Hardy was the destroyer leader for the 1934 programme of destroyers the H Class (1936) DD. They were completed to a design which gave the destroyer leader a slightly greater speed and armament than her flotilla ships. Similar to the concept of HMS Codrington. The RN destroyer flotilla organisation at the time called for a group of destroyers to be designed, ordered and built as a single group of eight ships. That group on completion formed a single destroyer flotilla. Which had one destroyer leader, whose Captain (D) would command the flotilla.
