Honour - Sunda Strait 1942 |
||||
Description |
The action took place in the Sunda Strait to the west of Java. Following the defeat of ABDA (American-British-Dutch-Australian) naval forces in the Java Sea 27-Feb, surviving allied warships tried to clear the area. The damaged heavy cruiser USS Houston and cruiser HMAS Perth sailed from Batavia via the Sunda Strait. However they encountered a Japanese heavy cruiser squadron and were both sunk. In a similar scene the damaged cruiser HMS Exeter, and destroyers HMS Encounter and USS Pope sailed from Surabaya, were found and attacked by Japanese aircraft and all sunk.
