Honour - 'Vengeance' 1800 |
||||
Description |
The action took place in the Mona passage, separating Puerto Rico and the
Dominican Republic in the West Indies. At 0830hrs HMS Seine sighted and gave chase to the French ship Vengeance in very light winds. At 1600hrs Vengeance began firing her stern guns, but it took until 2330hrs before Seine was in a position to return fire. At midnight Seine's rigging had suffered so much damage she fell behind and it took the rest of the night for repairs to be made. The next morning at 0800hrs Seine had closed with Vengeance again and the action continued. At 1030 hrs Vengeance surrendered. Seine lost 13 killed and 29 wounded out of 281 aboard..
