Shannon Class (1877) BB

HMS Shannon was completed as a single ship class, and classified as a second-class battleship. However some argue that she should be an armoured cruiser.

She was the first ship to have a protective deck, but other than that her design was unsatisfactory. The main problem was that she was too slow to work with other battleships.

Also even although she was intended for service on foreign stations she was not well suited to that role.
