Canada Class (1915) BB |
|
HMS Canada was completed as a class of one, and although completed after
the first of the Queen
Elizabeth Class (1915) was laid down a year before them and so can be
said to be part of the pre-Queen Elizabeth era. Built by Armstrong Shipbuilders she was originally ordered by Chile as the Almirante Latorre. Launched 27-Nov-1913 but bought by Great Britain 09-Sep-1914. In effect she was a slightly enlarged Iron Duke Class (1914) but with 14in guns instead of 13.5in guns. She was a fast ship and a welcome addition to the Fleet.
