HMS Matapan (1947) DD  (1st)

     
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Matapan was a Battle Class, destroyer leader.

Built by John Brown on the Clyde, laid down 11-Mar-1944, launched 30-Apr-1945, and commissioned 05-Sep-1947.

Spent most of her service life in Reserve, but was eventually rebuilt as a trials ship.

Broken up late 1970's.
