HMS Iris (1879) CC  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Iris was a 2nd Class Cruiser. (Originally designed as a Despatch Vessel and later re-rated).

Built at Pembroke Dock, laid down 10-Nov-1875, launched 12-Apr-1877 and completed Apr-1879.

Served in the Mediterranean from 1879-87, then returned to the UK and put into reserve 1887-1903.

Used at Portsmouth 1903-04, for harbour service as tender St. Vincent, for Mechanical Training of Boys.

Sold 1905.
