This the first ship to carry the name HMS Chanticleer was a Cherokee Class, 10-gun, brig-sloop.

Built by List of Cowes, keel laid Mar-1808, launched 26-Jul-1808, and of 237 tons builders measurement.

Used as a survey ship from Apr-1828, then a customs watchvessel from Feb-1830.

Renamed WV.5 25-May-1863.

Broken up Jun-1871 at Sheerness.
