HMS Cameron (1940) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Cameron was a Town Class, destroyer. One of 50 sold to the Royal Navy under the destroyers for bases agreement.

Originally the USS Welles DD257, built by Bethlehem Steel of Quincy, laid down 13-Nov-1918, launched 08-May-1919, commissioned in the US Navy 02-Sep-1919, commissioned in the Royal Navy 09-Sep-1940 and renamed.

Arrived at Portsmouth for refit on 20-Nov-1940

Bombed by German aircraft 15-Dec-1940 at Portsmouth and capsized in dock. Refloated 23-Feb-1941 and used for shock trials.

Listed for disposal 05-Oct-1943.

Left Portsmouth Nov-1944 for breaking up at Falmouth.
