Honour - Dogger Bank 1781 |
||||
Description |
During the war a British squadron of 7 ships-of-the-line plus 5 smaller
vessels, met an evenly matched Dutch squadron of 7 ships-of-the-line plus 5
smaller vessels, at the Dogger Bank - east of Northumberland. Each squadron
was escorting a convoy of merchantmen. The merchant ships managed to leave
the battle area and reached their respective home waters. The battle lasted for about 3 hours 40 minutes when both squadrons broke off the action with neither having gained an advantage. Although losses were small the Dutch ship Hollandie (64) was so badly damaged she later sank.
