Description |
Amboina was an important Dutch settlement in the Moluccas. It was defended
by Victoria Castle, which with the outlying batteries mounted 215 guns. Over 400 men of the Madras European Regiment with seamen and marines, assaulted and took the castle, town, harbour and island. Suffering only light casualties. Three Dutch vessels in the harbour were captured. Later neighbouring islands were also captured.
