A tyrannical ruler, named Theodore had caused widespread rebellion in the
country and inter-tribal conflict was savage. Britain intervened and when
peace overtures were rejected an expeditionary force under Lt-General Sir
Charles Napier landed to restore peace.
Naval brigades from Dryad, Octavia and Satellite were landed, and they captured Magdala. Theodore committed suicide, but soon after the British left savage inter-tribal conflict resumed.
Ships which were engaged but did not land a naval brigade and so were not awarded the honour were; Argus, Daphne, Nymph, Spiteful, Star and Vigilant.
