Description The action took place off Ushant at 48º 28'N 6º 18' W.

In severe weather HMS Scylla had been shadowing the larger French/Batavian frigate Weser (44-gun) since the 19-Oct when she was joined on at daybreak on 20-Oct by Royalist. The two smaller ships closed with then engaged Weser about 1530hrs. By 1700hrs both ships withdrew to repair damage.

The following morning HMS Rippon a 74-gun was in sight and closing with the action when at 0930hrs Royalist and Scylla again opened fire on the Weser.  Within 10 minutes Weser realised there was no hope of escape and surrendered.

Weser lost 4 killed and 15 wounded out of 340 aboard, the two British ships lost a total of 2 killed and 11 wounded.
