Honour - 'Mutine' 1797

Date - 29-May
Type - Single Ship or Boat Service Actions
Conflict - French revolutionary War; 1793-1803

Description This boat service action took place at Santa Cruz, Tenerife.

The previous day HMS Lively and Minerve found the French brig Mutine at anchor in the road.

The next day the 29-May boats from HMS Lively and Minerve attacked at 1430hrs, boarded and captured Mutine. However as the wind was too light to sail her out from the shore she had to be towed under fire from the shore and another ship in the road. By 1600hrs she moved out of range of French fire.

Mutine was immediately commissioned into the Royal Navy.
