Description The action took place of Cape Couronne, near Marseilles.

HMS Peterel encountered a French convoy of about 50 ships close inshore, escorted by the Ligurienne, which was attacked and taken after a battle lasting one and a half hours. When she struck Ligurienne was within 250 yards of the shore.

Peterel then captured two ships of the convoy.

Ligurienne lost 2 killed and 2 wounded, Peterel suffered no casualties.
