Description The action took place on the Rufiji River in German East Africa.

The German light cruiser Konigsberg (3,350 tons 10 x 4.1" guns) had carried out a series of raids along the river when she was found by reconnaissance aircraft.

Two monitors, HMS Mersey and Severn (each 1,260 tons, 2 x 6" and 2 x 4.7" guns) engaged and destroyed the cruiser.
