Description The action took place about 150 miles west by south (between 254º and 263º) of the Isles of Scilly.

Having sighted French ships through a break in fog, a small British squadron gave chase. HMS Astraea caught the larger Gloire, and engaged her. the battle lasted nearly an hour when the French struck her colours.

Gloire lost 40 killed and wounded out of 275 on board, Astraea lost 8 wounded out of 212 on board.
