Honour - 'Athalante' 1804 |
||||
Description |
This boat service action took place in the Vlie roads in the Netherlands. On the 28-March during a reconnaissance of the Vlie passage into the Texel HMS Scorpion found 2 Dutch brig-corvettes at anchor in the road. Scorpion could not attack due to the shoals around the entrance. So on 31-March, five boats from Beaver and Scorpion, comprising 60 men left Scorpion at 2130hrs intending to attack the Athalante. They arrived alongside their target at 2330hrs and began boarding. After a short attack the Athalante was taken. Athalante lost 4 killed and 11 wounded out of 76 aboard. The attackers lost 5 wounded.
